At this very moment in time you could increase your disposable income by at least $15,000 a year, while remaining on your current salary. Imagine what you could do with that extra cash! Perhaps you could fly to that holiday destination you’ve always dreamed of. Can you see yourself on a mountain top, or an island beach? I hear what you’re thinking… this sounds like a dodgy sales pitch or get-rich-quick scheme. I understand why you may feel that way, because it sounds too good to be true. Here’s how. Invite flexibility into your life. Remote working is the secret. It’s true, you can work remotely AND increase your disposable income If you don’t already have a job where you can work remotely, I suggest picking up a copy of this book which describes ways you can approach your employer for empowering a remote working scenario. Employers are often more likely to give you greater work flexibility over a cash promotion, but you can turn flexibility into cash… save money on transit to work, claim tax deductions for a home office, no more dry cleaning bills etc. And that’s just the start. If you’re reading this article, you’re quite possibly a JobAdder user. With our cloud-based recruitment software you can already recruit from anywhere in the world and our integrations make anything possible, such as video interviewing, cloud accounting, electronic signatures and more. The golden ticket though, is to forgo your fixed living space. Taking to the road is the ultimate secret to increasing your disposable income. How do you go about hitting the road? Are you renting and don’t want to move your stuff into storage? Why not ask your landlord for permission to sublet your room for a period of time instead? Or if you’re near the end of your lease, you can let go of an address entirely and be free of that financial responsibility. Do you have a mortgage? You can lease your place out for a year, plus you’ll get more income if you rent it out fully furnished! So now that you’ve side-stepped rental payments, and covered your monthly mortgage, you’ll need a roof over your head. The exciting part is that you get to choose where that roof is, because you’re now flushed with cash you would have spent on the mortgage or fixed rent. If you’ve been paying $300 a week in rent and opt out of that cost, then you’ll have an extra $15,600 up your sleeve for the year! To give you an idea, a 4-star, serviced, double room with wifi in Ubud Bali is $250AUD per week, so you’d have $50 bonus cash already to put towards your next flight or a few days at the co-work space… plus you’ll be in paradise. If you desire a place closer to home, you may like to stay in a hostel for the price of $30 a night. Or maybe you want to borrow your folk’s caravan and go on a year road trip, and work using your tethered cell phone for data (for Australia, Telstra has a heat map of signal coverage here). Honestly, the options are as creative as you are.
How did I do it logistically? I stayed in a friend’s van fitted with a rooftop solar panel which charged my laptop overnight and at lunchtime. I tethered my phone for internet, which ran at 12mbps download speed. My rent for that week was nil, and my internet data cost was $5. The bonus for any employer is that I was even more inspired to perform ‘above and beyond’ in my work because of where it was enabling me to be. My office looked like this:
