Anyone who has interacted with our amazing Customer Support team in the last 6 years will have had the pleasure of speaking with Bree Cowell.
Bree was one of our first Support Consultants and has forever raised the bar for the way in which we support our customers. Bree also became our first remote employee when she moved to Bali and continued to support customers from there. Many customers still don’t even realise she has been sitting in a hut surrounded by monkeys the whole time. Bree’s commitment and dedication to making remote working a success has led to a company wide remote working policy and has allowed dozens of Adders to work from some of the most amazing places in the world.
Bree is an avid yogi and advocate for women in need and has decided to devote her life to helping others. Her first step on this journey is heading to India to work with impoverished women and children.

According to new statistics released by Trade Me Jobs, New Zealand is currently experiencing high demand for jobs.
As reported by The Global Recruiter, listing data revealed that Trade Me Jobs has experienced a 12% increase in job vacancies listed on their platform. This upturn represents the fourth consecutive quarter of significant growth in new job listings.
Jeremy Wade, the Head of Trade Me Jobs, shared, “The job market has experienced unbelievable growth over the last year, and we’ve seen listings up in every region across the country which is very rare.”
As well as strong demand for talent, an analysis of over 72,000 job vacancies on the Trade Me platform has shown that some sectors of the New Zealand employment market are also experiencing growth in wages.
Mr Wade expanded, “Overall average pay was down 1 per cent, but in sectors with huge demand for staff the wages have begun to shift pretty markedly. For instance, the average wage in construction in Auckland has jumped 21 per cent in the last year.”
Sectors that are experiencing the highest levels of growth – and wage increases – are jobs in the construction (average pay up 8%) and automotive (average pay up by 5%) industries.

For most people with ordinary jobs, work is usually the thing dragging them home from a tropical island and back to the desk. But JobAdder is no ordinary workplace. For our Customer Support team, last week it was work dragging them to the tropical island of Bali for an unforgettable week of team bonding and remote working.
At the beginning of the year, JobAdder reintroduced an internal employee program called LifeAdder. LifeAdder is an opportunity for us Adders to set personal goals for the year ahead based on a challenge we want to overcome or a new experience we want to try that puts us out of our comfort zone.
In true Customer Support style, the Support Pirates raised the bar and aimed high – literally – their LifeAdder challenge was to climb the famously steep Mount Batur in Bali together as a team. So last week they jetted off to spend a week in Bali achieving their lofty goal and working remotely for a week from Bali’s busy tech hub in Ubud.
On the day of the climb, the Support Pirates woke up at 2am and trekked for almost 3 hours in the pitch darkness with just a few torches to help them navigate and scale the volcanic rocks. After a few straight hours of trekking and “focusing on breathing so as to not die,” they reached the summit just before dawn and saw the sunrise.
Of the experience, Customer Support Manager Jez shared,
“Mt Batur was a massive highlight, but the biggest highlight for me wasn’t the hike itself but the experience. It was spending more time with everyone out of the office and even out of the normal Sydney work environment. It was also sitting back and not being “the Manager,” learning and getting to know more about everyone and what amazing people they are. This was definitely a humbling experience for me. Reflecting on it, it’s really reminded me to let go of the manager mind frame and know you can place trust in the team around you. They have a different outlook and approach which will help the team grow and evolve and look at things differently.”
The rest of the week was spent working remotely and bonding as a team. Highlights included riding mopeds through the town and never-ending rice fields, trying all the different flavours of local Ubud cuisine and exploring hidden waterfalls.
Customer Support Consultant Holly shared some insight on the importance of team bonding brought about on the trip:
“We definitely did a lot of team bonding just by being around each other 24/7 on this trip. It is a very different experience to be around someone for 8 hours a day, versus the entire day. Working together and then going out to dinner afterwards etc. I think we all really learned so much about each other, and I feel that the time together made us stronger as a team. When you are with someone all day, there is so much time for some ‘real talk’ and this helped me to really get to know the amazing people that I work with.”

#1: Job Application Quick View (9.1 million clicks)
Have you started using the Quick View keyboard shortcuts yet? Use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard to flick through and select Quick View cards in a flash. More about this tip.
Plus, if you just need a snapshot of a candidate record, click on their photo in your search results (as opposed to the candidate name or title) and you’ll see a Quick View popup window.
#2: Quick Search (7.1 million clicks)
Make sure you know how to find whatever record you’re looking for the fastest way possible by using the expanded Quick Search filter options.

Have you noticed the new ‘Resume Updated’ column in the Candidates Grid? Always keep an eye on it to ensure you download the most up to date version of a candidate’s resume. Do you have more than one office or brand? If so, you need to take advantage of our dynamic email signatures. By setting up just one master email signature – the key information is taken from your user profile – this signature is applied to all of your JobAdder email templates.
Equally, for small businesses, having one clean signature that is consistent across the board adds a professional edge to you and your consultants’ outbound emails.

Did you know that the average open rate of emails is 22% while that of SMS is 98%? If you haven’t already, now is the time to diversify and optimise your communications with SMS.

No one wishes they had more time in a day than the multitasking recruiter. Especially when it comes to organising group interviews.
As if hosting interviews isn’t time consuming enough, the task of scheduling group interviews with multiple candidates while working around everyone’s conflicting schedules can really make the task bigger than Ben Hur.
Thankfully, our latest integration with Calendly offers a solution to the problem.
Calendly is a scheduling tool that makes calendar event management simple and straightforward. By syncing up with your connected account, Calendly gathers together all of your existing events and allows you to designate time slots in your calendar when you’re free for interviews.
Once this is done, you can simply invite candidates to book themselves into available time slots for group interview sessions. Recruiters and hiring managers can also export an interview attendance list from within JobAdder, allowing them to be better prepared for the interview itself.

Lately we’ve noticed a lot of JobAdder users are getting Slack.
Not as in – you know – lazy, but Slack: the team communication tool that’s used by over 3 million people every day. As our savvy network of recruiters will know, it’s especially great for recruitment teams as the widespread usage of Slack means that it’s quickly becoming a goldmine for talent.

So for all our Slack users out there, we’ve put together a cheat sheet of the top 5 tips you need to know in order to work and communicate better, and just be an all-round better Slacker.
Tip #1: How to set reminders
To set a reminder from any message box:
For example, to set a reminder to take a coffee break: /remind me every weekday at 2pm to take a coffee break. To set a reminder for your team meeting in your channel you might type: /remind #[channel] on July 31st at 10:55am to join the monthly meeting.
When you want to follow up on a conversation or remind yourself of a task, you can set a reminder for any message in Slack.
Manage your reminders
Use the /remind list command in any channel or direct message to view upcoming, past, or incomplete reminders. Slackbot will return a list that only you can see.
You can action these reminders directly from your list.
Tip # 2: How to archive and mute channels
Archiving channels that aren’t being used anymore:
Muting channels that you need to be in but find too noisy:
Muting a channel allows you to browse its activity without being notified of unread messages. Muted channels appear at the bottom of your channel list. Keep in mind when you mute a channel, you will no longer receive any notifications from the channel, including @mentions.

Reward and incentivise employees
Never underestimate the power of positive reinforcement in daily dealings with staff; it’s a way to make employees feel valued and know that their hard work is acknowledged.
