Video interviewing tools have grown in acceptance in recent years. In fact, six out of 10 companies now utilize video interviewing tools to connect, and it’s been predicted the practice will continue to be adopted until it becomes standard.
With these high adoption rates comes additional trends for utilizing video interviewing tools to their fullest potential. Here are five of those and what smart staffers should know about them:
1. Replacing phone screens with one-way video interviews
The traditional hiring process can be full of inefficiencies and wasted time — and one of those is the phone screen. All too often, you might invest considerable time and effort into a candidate before ever getting a personal feel for their candidacy, and then realize the person won’t be a good fit for your client’s opening.
Enter the one-way video interview. In a one-way video interview, candidates answer your questions in short videos. In a couple minutes, you can tell if a candidate is well-spoken, prepared for the interview, and a potentially good cultural fit for your client. Plus, this virtual setting can even allow for unlimited retakes. Now, you can present the most polished version of a candidate to a client by coaching the candidate through your questions.
If the candidate is all wrong for the job, you can move on easily without wasting any more time. In fact, research from the Aberdeen Group shows you can watch 10 one-way video interviews in the time it takes to perform a single phone screen.
2. Enhanced collaboration tools
Rather than sending over an email with a resume and some notes, you can send clients links to video interview recordings. This allows for enhanced collaboration with clients around shortlisted candidates, and gives you a better way to present the candidate to your client. It also saves time from the typical back and forth of sifting through email threads.
3. Using video to connect with passive candidates
Passive candidates, or candidates who are currently employed or not looking for employment, don’t typically have the time to dedicate to in-person interviews. With the video interview, you can easily schedule around a passive candidate’s packed schedule.
For instance, a one-way video interview allows passive candidates to answer your questions from their favorite mobile device. A live video interview also allows you to connect whenever they have a break in their schedule and record it for reference. Plus, if the passive candidate doesn’t work out for one client, you can send the recording to another client down the road.
4. Video for connecting with far-flung candidates
Video interviewing can be a great tool for bridging large distances. No longer does differing locations mean flying a candidate in for an in-person meeting. Video interviews allow you to have a face-to-face conversation with candidates from all over the globe without spending a dime on airfare.
By cutting down on the hassle of in-person interviews, you open up your client’s talent pool to a larger cache of candidates, and build yourself a digital library of video interviews you can pull from at any time for future clients.
With these latest trends in video interviewing, the interview process becomes more efficient and collaborative. By opening up the talent pool and eliminating barriers of the traditional hiring process, video interviews can help you find a top candidate for your client before the competition scoops them up.
5. Building a digital library of candidates
Now you can have candidates’ video interviews on hand to send to and share with a client at any time. If a candidate doesn’t work out for one client, you can send the recording to another.
For instance, maybe you receive a job order a few months from now that an older candidate would be great for — you can go back into your digital library, review, and share that candidate’s recorded video interview.
