We recently welcomed Founder, Managing Director and social media influencer Amanda Smith to the JobAdder offices. Amanda established The Independent Search late last year to cater for one of the hottest talent areas in the market at the moment – cyber security.

As for the recruitment industry, our new integration with Taskpace now gives recruiters access to a personal AI assistant.
Taskpace is a smart task management tool designed for recruiters.
By integrating with your existing CRM, Taskpace collates all of your tasks and converts them into one actionable list within their user-friendly platform. Tasks are gathered from the data and activities of the individual recruiter’s user account, such as their job orders. Using AI functionality, Taskpace predicts future actions and tasks, making suggestions about what a recruiter must do next and guiding them efficiently through their workflow. Tasks are automatically updated as soon as they’re completed and they are sorted by priority – if a job sits idle in the task queue for too long, it will bumped up to the front of the queue as a reminder to the recruiter. By taking care of the routine and ensuring no task slips through the cracks, Taskpace’s goal is to free up the recruiter so that they can focus on making more placements.
Taskpace is $10AUD per user per month, but for a limited time only Taskpace are offering JobAdder users 1 month free usage. Sign up to Taskpace before 31st May with the coupon code JOBADDERTP to redeem this offer! Find out more about how to connect your JobAdder account with Taskpace in the Integrations Marketplace. So far this year our remote working staff have worked from ancient towns in Colombia, beautiful beaches in Hawaii and tropical paradise in Bali. So how do we keep track of having staff in all corners of the globe and ensure they’re still part of the daily life and culture of our company? Here are some of the tools we use to hire and and stay connected with our digital nomads. VideoMyJob This smart video app lets you record video job ads to really give remote candidates a sense of how great it would be to work for your company, even if they can’t visit your office in person. Equipped with an inbuilt teleprompter, VideoMyJob is also a great tool for recording training, marketing and promotional videos.
Spark Hire Spark Hire is a great tool that allows you to connect with remote talent via one-way or two-way video interviews. See what a candidate’s personality is like and how they think on their feet without a face-to-face meeting. Plus, the interviews are saved afterwards, meaning you can play them back and ask a colleague for a second opinion on someone if needed.
Slack A user-friendly tool with a lot of personality that’s great for internal communications. One-on-one chats are as easy as company-wide conversations and it’s made for sharing media – everyone’s favourite feature of Slack is it’s hilarious and downright bizarre array of GIFs! Slack makes it possible for all staff to be included in the conversations, latest happenings and fun of day-to-day company life, no matter where they are.
Zoom Zoom is a good tool for dialling international workers into meetings and company conferences. Remote workers can join any meeting by following a link shared by the host and can have face time in the meeting with video functionality. There’s also an option to mute or blank your own screen if you’re doing the call from home in your pyjamas!
Trello Trello makes workflow management easy. You can create separate boards for different business areas, e.g. Design, Product Releases etc., and compartmentalise tasks under those areas via individual cards. All contributors to a task (including remote workers) are tagged in a card so they can collaborate, be updated as it progresses towards completion and be reminded when a task deadline is coming up.
Every Time Zone Just like its name, Every Time Zone is a quick way to see and compare different time zones. It also maps out days and lets you toggle a time bar back and forth to see what a certain time will be in different international cities – a godsend when trying to plan meetings in advance with remote workers in different time zones!

WRONG. There are distinct elements of every successful job ad that make it stand out and likewise, whether you realise it or not, there are things you could be doing that actually put candidates off. Read on as we break down the things you have to include – and avoid – to produce a successful job ad.
1. Skip the boring company blurb If a candidate wants to know what year your company was founded in or any of that dull corporate info, they’ll look it up on your website. Instead of losing their interest at the beginning of the ad, include a blurb that’s tailored to the role you’re advertising for. Give a short description of the team, ask engaging questions about what the candidate is looking for, or outline what your dream candidate looks like.
2. Keep it simple, stupid First of all, there’s no better way to communicate your job ad in a clear, simple and engaging way than through a video ad. Need help putting one together? Read our guide on how to create your first video job ad. If a video ad’s not on the cards, then make sure your ad text is simple and succinct. Use clear headings, write short paragraphs and always use bullet points for lists e.g. listing qualifications.
3. Gendered language Job ads can be littered with gendered language without the person who created the ad even knowing it. There are obvious examples of gendered language in job ads, such as ‘Policemen,’ but there are more subtle ones too. Terms like ‘confident,’ ‘assertive’ and ‘bold’ are masculine ascribed words, and therefore if a job ad is full of these kind of words it is subconsciously off putting for female candidates who don’t view themselves as embodying these characteristics – even though they are just as capable of doing the job. Always use gender neutral terminology to ensure you don’t isolate any promising talent.
4. Distinguish the must-haves from the nice-to-haves Break down the job requisites into two categories – those that are essential requirements of the role and those that are an added bonus, or could be taught to the candidate in the role. If all requirements are listed as essential, there are candidates who won’t apply if they don’t tick every box. In fact, studies reveal that women have a tendency to apply for roles only when they feel they are 100% qualified, whereas men will apply if they feel they are 60% qualified. Also, give broad experience dates – a candidate with 5 years of experience is not necessarily better than one with 4 years of experience, so don’t block the latter out of the equation.
5. Communicate Company Values Many candidates will tick all the boxes on paper, so draw out the ones who are the best fit for your company by letting them know about your company values. The more transparent you can be about your company and the way it operates, the more likely you are to attract the right kind of candidate whose values are aligned with those of your company.
6. Don’t Skip The Fun Stuff Fun perks often become seen as the norm once you’ve been in a company for a while, but don’t forget they’re not the norm to outsiders. Got a flexible working culture or a fully stocked beer fridge? Shout about it – that’ll probably be the most memorable part of the ad for applicants!
So, want to see how a great job ad is done?
Source: JobAdder News & Information - Recruit Everywhere http://blog.jobadder.com/6-things-can-make-break-job-ad/ This week a group of us Adders spent a lunchtime at the Elizabeth Street Red Cross Clinic in Sydney donating blood. The sight of those needles (and the bag of what we’d donated!) was not for the faint-hearted, but it was over before we knew it and there were plenty of free cookies and sweet treats going around afterwards.
As part of our commitment to LifeAdder, one of our company-wide objectives this year is to step up our involvement in charity work and give more help to those who need it most.
Donating blood only takes an hour (15 mins for the donating part, 45 mins for the appointment) and it doesn’t cost a cent! The blood you donate in one session can be made into 22 different types of medical treatments to treat all kinds of serious medical conditions.
Why not round up a group from your company and donate blood one lunchtime next week? There’s no better feeling than knowing you’re making a real contribution that saves lives. Or here’s another way to look at it: it’ll be one very memorable team bonding activity!

So to dial it up a notch for our app-happy users, this month we decked out the app with all new features and things people love most from the desktop. Catch the full recap in less than 60 seconds:
It’s not just these new goodies that users are loving, each month we add slick new features and enhancements to the app, often inspired by client feedback. Here’s a quick refresher of the most popular new features we’ve added over the last 6 months:
At JobAdder, the man behind the magic is Mobile Developer Matthew Robins. You can call him Mobile Matt for short. Matt lives and breathes mobile and in between bringing exciting new mobile tech to JobAdder, he was recently invited by Microsoft to their HQ in Seattle to talk all things Xamarin (mobile app software). Let’s hope he didn’t wear the ponytail beard.
We caught up with Mobile Matt to talk mobile recruiting tips and why mobile tech is so important for the recruitment industry. JobAdder: What makes mobile recruiting so awesome?

Firstly, congratulations! Secondly, it may take a bit of adjusting to the different kind of discipline and lifestyle required to excel and enjoy your new digital life. That’s where we have experience that will be useful for your journey, and we love to share what we learn along the way! Are you sitting comfortably? Let’s go…
Where to go?With your new freedom, there are so many places you can go, but where do you start? We’ve found that NomadList is a great tool for quick and easy research into amazing digital nomad locations. You can search by livability, your interests, the climate, cost of living, internet speeds and more. Are you bringing the family along for the digital nomad journey? Filter by family friendly locations too! Amazing right?!
Where to work from? After you’ve decided on a country to head to, how can you know in advance where to set up your laptop? If you want to know if the cafe down the street from you has wifi, or if there will be an office nearby for a last minute conference call, here’s where WorkFrom has it’s moment of glory. This app has an ever-growing list of workable locations that have been scouted, tried and tested by folk like you. Features that you can discover about locations are noise level, wifi accessibility, food and alcohol availability, or… wait for it… POWER POINTS! I can tell you a thing or two about power point locations in non-digital-nomad-friendly places like Queenstown airport (they’re low on the north wall near the luggage carousel, and even comes with a seat!) but Workfrom.co takes this worldwide so you’ll know if there’s power waiting for you. As it’s a US originated app, US locations are where it shines the most, but it also has locations as remote as Chiang Mai. I confess I just spent considerable time today dreaming about the 48 locations listed there. Maybe you would prefer to find dog-friendly work locations in San Francisco with a power point? Hells yes! You can even sign in and see who’s working near you for some great networking opportunities. Have an explore and tell us what you find.
Where to stay?If you’ve been living under a rock, you won’t have heard of Airbnb. But those of us who are lucky enough to have used this app will know of its benefits, and we’re happy to share them with you. With Airbnb you can stay with local people, be in a community or in a private oasis, and often be in central locations with great access to towns and transport. If you have your own transport, there are accommodation options outside of the mayhem of large cities. I love this option as it gives unique cultural opportunities that you may not get by staying in large hotel chains. Basically, the major advantage I’ve found with Airbnb is that it increases opportunities. When all the other hotels are booked out on booking.com or wotif… Airbnb will have something available. But now I head there first. You can search for places by your location, budget, amenities, language spoken, or even stay with Superhosts only so you’re guaranteed an excellent experience.
Getting around? You’ve chosen a country, work location, a place to stay… now how do you get around? Uber. Really… I’m all about supporting entrepreneurial people who are looking to make extra income, or work for a purpose. I feel Uber drivers are this category of people. Uber is available in all of these cities (it’s a long list, prepare for some reading time). On top of the anthropological and financial benefits I feel Uber embodies, it’s basically a reeeeally easy to use app, and I value great user experience. If I want an affordable, reliable ride, I can get one. Simple. We love Uber so much at JobAdder that we have a business account linked to our personal Uber apps that we can all use to get home safely from company events. Where Uber is not available, I’ve found GrabTaxi in South East Asia offers a good alternative. They’ve expanded to include GrabCar, GrabHitch, GrabShare, GrabCoach. So many transport options.
Build a social life and network? The life of a digital nomad can be pretty sweet, but as some of us have found, it can have profound moments of loneliness when away from your normal home community, friends and family. Here’s where Meetup comes to the rescue as a fantastic tool for networking or meeting folk with similar interests. Their motto “What do you love? Do more of it with Meetup” speaks for itself really doesn’t it? Are you in Chiang Mai and love board games (you’re there now aren’t you after I tempted you with the Workfrom.co locations), then this is the meetup for you. Are you not finding your interest group of “JobAdder fans anon” at your location? You can get proactive and start your own Meetup group. Get amongst it!
How to keep balanced? With all of the constant change, transit, different sleeping locations/beds, noisy or long transport, and hostels full of snoring backpackers that comes with being a digital nomad… you need a soundtrack for meditation. Keep your sanity and zen with Insight Timer. You can choose guided meditations, or a timer that plays ambient sounds or singing bowls/bells so you can bliss-out and come back grounded in a time that suits you. I love drifting off to sleep listening to this binaural nature sound track (connects both sides of your brain), and it feels like home wherever I happen to be.
Thanks for coming on this digital nomad journey with us. We love cutting-edge, user-friendly app platforms. In fact, it gets us so excited, we continue to develop our own mobile app to make lives for recruiters, staffing agents and HR departments worldwide simpler and happier. Have you found any other great apps not mentioned here? Let us all know about them so we can share together below… ready, set… GO! Source: JobAdder Blog – Recruit Everywhere http://blog.jobadder.com/app-ify-your-digital-nomad-lifestyle/ “The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime.” Now I’m no baseball expert, but this quote by American baseball hero Babe Ruth is as true of sport as it is of the workplace. At JobAdder, teamwork is the fabric of what we do every day. We work hard, play hard, learn from the losses and always celebrate the wins – big and small. It was only a few years ago that we were a smaller team that could be crammed under one roof for team bonding getaways or Christmas parties. Fast forward to 2017: we now have Adders spread out all over the globe and as of March we’ve already welcomed our 8th new starter this year!
In the spirit of keeping our growing team together, we’re excited to announce that this year we’re reintroducing a popular internal initiative called LifeAdder. LifeAdder is an opportunity for us Adders to get together and set a personal goal (or goals) for the year ahead, based on something we want to achieve or a challenge we want to overcome. As the year progresses we check in, share key milestones, vent about hurdles and encourage each other along the way. The idea of a LifeAdder goal is something that will involve a challenge for the person who sets it, it’s something they wouldn’t or couldn’t otherwise do; something that pushes them out of their comfort zone. More than achieving these goals as individuals, we work towards betterment as a team.
We recently kicked off the first LifeAdder session of 2017 and boy do we have some awesome and extraordinary goals to achieve this year! We have Adders who are going to ride motorbikes, go skydiving, learn Salsa dancing and do the Ironman challenge, just to name a few. After 2 Adders found out that they share a goal in common – archery – they’re upping the ante by facing off in an archery competition at the end of the year. Robin Hood, eat your heart out! Our Customer Support team are also taking it up a notch, they’re going on a trip to Bali for a week in July where they’ll wake up one morning at 2am and climb Mount Batur in Ubud at sunrise. I think the rest of the company was keen to make that their LifeAdder goal as well after hearing about it!
As a group, us Adders are anything but average. LifeAdder is a fun way to celebrate our individuality and share something that keeps us connected outside of what we do every day at work. We’re dreaming big and aiming high in 2017.
Stay tuned for more LifeAdder updates as we bring these exciting goals to life! Source: JobAdder Blog – Recruit Everywhere http://blog.jobadder.com/introducing-lifeadder/ In most companies, salespeople are on the frontline. Sales reps put a face to a company and are out there in the market every day – they’re the networkers, the dealmakers, the do’ers. There’s no denying that salespeople have a high level of valuable, practical knowledge, but how many opportunities are there for them to share and gain more knowledge? Frustrated with their experiences of trying to find specialised sales roles on generic job boards, sales and recruitment industry veterans Graham Winder and David Armitage observed a gap in the market for sales professionals. Not only did the ANZ job board market appear to be somewhat lacking in specialised employment hubs for sales, but they also noticed an overall lack of meaningful sales-oriented content. And that’s how Sales.Careers came about. Sales.Careers is first and foremost a channel to engage and educate sales professionals through high quality content. It’s also an emerging job board and its mission is to create an immersive and valuable experience for every person who visits the site. Sales.Careers pairs great content with savvy advice for both hiring managers and job seekers to create a collaborative learning environment. Of the demands facing modern sales professionals, Graham insightfully observes:
Sales.Careers has set out to foster a community of like-minded salespeople in ANZ and provide an opportunity for them to collectively learn and be upskilled. Whether you’re a job seeker looking for the perfect job or a hiring manager looking for the perfect candidate – we’ve all been guilty of having our blinkers on in pursuit of whatever we’re after next. However, there’s a lot to be gained from broadening our mindset and embracing every opportunity to learn and share advice. Here at JobAdder we’re big advocates of learning and we’re excited to announce that we’ve integrated with the Sales.Careers job board. As an added bonus – Sales.Careers are currently offering JobAdder users free job posting for a limited time only!
See what you can learn, share and find at Sales.Careers!
